How Offline Mode Works

DispatchCore is built offline-first, meaning the mobile app is designed to work without an internet connection from the ground up — it's not a limited "view-only" mode.

When you have no cell signal, you can still:

  • View your full job schedule — All assigned jobs and their details
  • Update job status — Accept, Start Driving, Arrived, Complete
  • Add notes — Type job notes that will sync later
  • Take photos — Before, during, and after photos are stored locally
  • Collect signatures — Customer signatures are saved on-device
  • Add line items — Enter parts, materials, and labor charges

Everything works exactly the same as when you're online. The only difference is that changes are queued locally and sent to the server when connectivity returns.

Why Offline Matters

Field service technicians regularly work in places with poor or no cell coverage:

  • Basements — Below-grade spaces often have no signal
  • Metal buildings — Warehouses and commercial spaces block cell signals
  • Rural areas — Outside of town, coverage can be spotty or nonexistent
  • Large buildings — Hospitals, schools, and office complexes with interior dead zones

Most competing apps offer "view-only" offline access — you can see your schedule but can't update anything. That means your dispatcher can't see your progress, your notes don't get saved, and your photos sit in limbo. DispatchCore's full offline support means your workflow never stops, regardless of connectivity.

Automatic Sync

When your phone reconnects to the internet (Wi-Fi or cellular), the app automatically syncs all queued changes to the server. This includes:

  • Status updates (with original timestamps)
  • Notes and job edits
  • Photos (uploaded in the background)
  • Signatures
  • Line items
  • GPS locations (captured at the time of the status change, not at sync time)

Sync happens automatically — you don't need to press any buttons or take any action. The app handles it in the background.

Checking Sync Status

The Settings screen in the mobile app shows your current sync status:

  • All synced — Everything has been sent to the server. Your dispatcher sees all your updates.
  • Pending sync — Changes are queued and will sync when connectivity returns. Shows the number of pending items.

If you see pending items for an extended period, check your internet connection. Moving to an area with better signal or connecting to Wi-Fi will trigger the sync automatically.

Offline Tips

  • Open the app before going underground — Make sure your job details are loaded before entering a dead zone. The app caches your assigned jobs.
  • Don't worry about timing — GPS and timestamps are captured when you tap the button, not when the data syncs. Your dispatcher will see the accurate time even if sync happens hours later.
  • Check sync before end of day — Before heading home, make sure everything has synced. Connect to Wi-Fi if needed to push any remaining photos.
  • Photos sync in the background — Large photo uploads happen automatically. You don't need to keep the app open.
